Overview

Developed by the Soviet Union in the early 1960s, the AT-3 Sagger (Rus: 9K11 Malyutka ["little one"]) is a wire guided Anti-Tank Guided Missile that entered formal service in 1963. A rugged design, noted for its simplicity and reliability, more than 200,000 AT-3 systems have been produced, along with numerous unlicensed copies, by several countries including China, Iran, and North Korea. Initially using Manual Command to Line of Sight (MLOS) guidance, the modeled version is the 1990's era SACLOS (Semi-Automatic Command-to-Line of Sight) guided AT-3d (9M14-2 Malyutka-3), but the actual missile fired is the 1980's era 9M14P1 capable of penetrating ~520mm of RHA.

Although the SACLOS guidance vastly improves first round hit probabilities and the system possesses a respectable 3000m maximum range, the Sagger suffers from long flight times, a long 500m minimum range, and a painful four to five minute setup time. As modeled, Sagger teams deploy two missiles, allowing for quick follow up shots, but, if so equipped, reloading times average more than a minute, and rapid repositioning is out of the question. Still, despite the systems flaws, the Sagger's prominence in recent conflicts such as Chechnya and Syria prove that if properly employed, the old missile is still a potent adversary.

Employment

The observer position F8 displays a third-person view of the Sagger team.

Pressing N provides a magnified third-person view (and only if the Realism setting is Low or Medium (rev. 3.002)).

F7 or F11 switches to the first-person view of the "Squad Leader"/gunner.
Sagger team "Squad Leader's" view:
Pressing N will brings the Squad Leader's binoculars into action. This can not be used to engage targets.

Pressing F2 accesses the weapon sights. From here the mouse or joystick may be used to aim, and the space bar/default trigger to fire. As with other SACLOS guided weapons, all the gunner needs to do is keep the reticle centered on the target, but due to the missile's low relative speed, lateral targets moving faster than 60kph may prove difficult to hit.

The Sagger's sight does not have thermal or night vision capability, but NVG (Night Vision Goggle) views for the squad leader/members (Num +) are available under appropriate lighting conditions if the team is so equipped (rev. 2.640). Note that NVGs are useful for observation only, and have no effect on weapon sights.
