12Alfa
In all the cases, the tank was to be rearmed with the Lvkan m/36 75mm L/60 anti-aircraft gun. This gun was going out of service and was compatible with the 75mm armor-piercing ammunition already developed during and after World War 2 for existing anti-tank guns, so it was an ideal and cheap solution. As it became clear that alternative A.1 was the most viable, work began on rebuilding the Lvkan m/36 to make it fit the new turret. To achieve this, the barrel was cut down from L/60 to L/56,5 and a new recoil system was addedhttp://www.armourbook.com/uploads/forum/posts/1226928974_74ss112.jpg
12Alfa
Strv 74 Versions Strv 74 H and Strv 74 V, the only difference being the transmission. The H version was based on the Strv m/42 TH, and the V version was based on the Strv m/42 TV. Its high silhouette and thin body along with the recoil of the gun made it wave when firing the gun at 3 and 9 o´clock and it was sometimes referred as "Sanslös" (Swedish for "The Reckless") by its crew.Spec.Place of origin SwedenService history--In service 1958 - 1984Production history--Variants 74 H, 74 VSpecificationsWeight 26 tonnesLength 6.08 m 7.93 m (including gun)Width 2.43 mHeight 3.00 mCrew 4 (commander, driver, gunner, loader)Armor 15mm/0.59in-80mm/3.15inMain armament--7.5 cm kanon strv 74Secondary armament 2×8 mm ksp m/39 strvEngine Gasoline, 2×Scania-Vabis 607 170 hp (127 kW) eachPower/weight 13.08 hp/tonneSuspension Torsion beam suspensionOperational range 200 km/124.3 milesSpeed 45 kph/28 mph Edited July 21, 2015 by 12Alfa

12Alfa
This weeks AFV Schützenpanzer Lang HS.30 I.F.V. (1958) - Western Germany
12Alfa
Schützenpanzer Lang HS.30 HISTORY In1957, Hispano-Suiza proposed such the a prototype, the project was accepted for a massive production. SPZ was the acronym of "Schützenpanzer", assault armored vehicle, HS.30 being the factory type. The Army ordnance designation was 12.3. The "lang" meaning "long" was added later to distinguish the vehicle from the "Kurz", short version. The "lang" mirrored WW2 Sd Kfz 251 while the "Kurz" was the modern equivalent of the smaller Sd Kfz 250. The Swiss firm Hispano-Suiza subcontracted for the first batch of 2,822 vehicles the British bus maker Marc-Leyland, 825 others were made at Hanomag in Hanover and Henschel in Kassel. The company Rheinmetall produced the autocannon under licence while Rolls-Royce was involved for the powerplant and transmission. No less than 10 000 vehicles were initially ordered, but after the controversy following the first operational usage, it was cut short to 2,176

12Alfa
HS-30 (LANG) The AFV was propelled by a rear-placed, transversal Rolls-Royce B81 Mk 80F 8-cylinder petrol, giving 220 hp (164 kW) with a Power/weight of 15.3 hp/tonne, which gave a top speed of 58 kph. The operational range however was only 270 km, which was not seen
12Alfa
The HS-30 (SPz 12-3) mounted a small turret with a Hispano-Suiza HS.820 20 mm autocannon and a 15x15 periscopic sight. The role of the 20 mm autocannon in German doctrine was to engage helicopters, antitank weapons, and light armored vehicles, thus freeing tanks to concentrate their fire against other tanks. Even with the turret, the SPz 12-3 was fully two feet lower in height than the M113 - no small advantage on an armored battlefield. The vehicle had an on-board supply of 2,000 rounds of 20 mm ammunition. Frontal armor provided protection against 20 mm projectiles, which was stronger than comparable vehicles of other nations. The additional armor made the SPz 12-3 four tons heavier than the M113, even though the SPz could only carry half as many troops. Developed in the post-WWII era, the HS.820 fired a 20×139 mm round developed from the Swiss 20×139 FMK (and FK 38) as a replacement for their earlier 20×110 mm design of the widely used HS.404. The new round was one of two post-war European 20 mm designs, the other being the 20×128 developed by Oerlikon for a similar role. The HS.820's high 1100 m/s muzzle velocity and equally high 1000 round per minute firing rate made it a formidable weapon.

12Alfa
This weeks AFV..........SK-105 Kürassier This light tank was developed by the Saurer-Werk (today Steyr Daimler-Puch). The first prototype was ready in 1967 and first production vehicles were delivered in 1971. Although classified as "tank destroyer" [Jagdpanzer] by the Austrian army, SK 105 (known as Kurassier) is considered a light tank. The SK 105 variants include the Greif armored recovery vehicle, the Pionier engineering vehicle and the driver training vehicle. They are in service in Argentina, Austria, Bolivia, Morocco and Tunisia. The Navy of Brazil also acquired 17 SK 105 for the Body of Fuzileiros Navais (CFN). The incorporation of this tank is part of the Program of Reaparelhamento of the Navy for equiping fiflemen with more modern equipment. Production of the SK 105 resumed for Botswana, with an order for 20 brand new vehicles and an option on an additional 30 vehicles.

12Alfa
The SK-105 Kurassier uses improved chassis of the 4K 4FA armored personnel carrier and mounts an improved French FL-12 turret of the AMX-13 light tank.
12Alfa
SK-105 Kurassier Front armor protects the crew from 20-mm projectiles, while all-round protection is against small arms bullets only. Some export vehicles were fitted with add-on armor. Turret of the AMX-13 has an unusual oscillating design. It is made from two parts. Lower part moves horizontally, while the upper part moves with the main gun vertically. The SK-105 Kurassier is armed with a 105-mm rifled gun. This gun is completed with a semi-automatic revolving magazine type autoloader. It allowed to reduce crew to three members. Vehicle has two revolving magazines holding 6 rounds each. A total of 43 rounds for the main gun are carried. The SK-105 Kurassier has a maximum rate of fire in 12 rounds per minute. Unfortunately gun is non-stabilized and vehicle can't fire accurately on the move. Secondary armament consists of two 7.62-mm machine guns. One of them is mounted coaxially with the main gun, while the other is positioned on top of the roof. Some tanks lack roof mounted MG.
