T-84M

Operational history

Ukraine

The first T-84 prototype vehicle rolled out in 1994, and in the same year it was decided to build several more vehicles. After successful completion of the extensive trials programe in the late 1990s the T-84 MBT entered service with the Ukrainian Army in 1999. On 24 August 2000, 10 T-84 MBTs took part in the parade dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.

In 2014, the T-84 first saw action during the War in Donbass.

Thailand

In September 2011, The Malyshev Plant, based in Kharkiv, announced plans to produce the first batch of five Oplot-M tanks for the Thai Army by the end of the year. Under the contract, the Ukrainian company will make 49 tanks worth over USD 200 million. 49 Oplot tanks were ordered by RTA’s operational command from Ukrspecexport under a $200m contract in September 2011.

Boxer MRAV

In mid-2006 the Netherlands decided to remain in the ARTEC consortium’s joint Boxer MRAV modular armored personnel carrier project with Germany.

A formal contract worth up to EUR 1.2 billion (about $1.6 billion) was finally signed in December 2006, clearing the way for both Dutch & German vehicle production.

The Royal Netherlands Army is purchasing 200 Boxer vehicles for transport /YjY7MDMsMmU0LDAsMSwx/47bea871f253715b5b3d267334a1b3be.jpg'>http://ocdn.eu/images/pulscms

The 200 Boxer MRAVs will be delivered in 5 versions – 58 ambulances, 55 Command Post variants, 41 engineer group (pioneer) vehicles, 27 cargo vehicles, and 19 cargo/command-and-control vehicles to replace the current YPR 765 tracked vehicles. Note that this figure is down from initial estimates of 384 vehicles.

Under current plans, Jane’s revised reports indicate that the German Army is due to take delivery of 272 Boxer vehicles in 3 baseline versions: 135 armored personnel carriers (APCs), 65 command post (CP) variants, and 72 heavy armored ambulances.

http://www.kmweg.com/uploads/pics/BOXER_0856.JPG

The Boxers will replace some Fuchs 6 x 6 and tracked M113-series APCs currently in service; like the Dutch Boxers, they will fill a middle weight armor role alongside heavier tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicles – in this case, the new KMW/Rheinmetall Puma.

The Boxer program is being managed by the European OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation) Armaments Agency. Britain was initially part of the MRAV consortium as well, but left in 2003 to pursue its own future armored vehicles project called FRES. The industrial contractor is ARTEC GmbH – acting on behalf of the consortium formed by Kraus-Maffei Wegmann (36%), Rheinmetall Landsysteme (14%) and Stork PWV (50%).

Manufacturing of the vehicles will take place in both countries. Amsterdam-based Stork PWV is the national prime contractor and system integrator for the Dutch Boxer vehicles. As a partner, Stork Special Products is also responsible for assembling of the power pack consisting of a MTU engine, angular gear, transmission, cooling block and over 1,200 minor parts in total. They’re also developing the Environmental Control System, an air-conditioning system with integrated NBC(nuclear, biological, chemical) protection.

Boxer MRAV

Boxer's design is based on the modular structure for maximum flexibility. It uses a single chassis with a snap-in modules for different purposes,

https://thaimilitaryandasianregion.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/boxer-mrav-module.jpg?w=625

including infantry carrier, command vehicle, ambulance, supply carrier and so on. These modules are interchangeable in less than an hour.

http://i0.wp.com/farm1.static.flickr.com/299/19826448891_3c0ff50c3f.jpg?w=625

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/de/65/4c/de654c4b471d5f0684e2a234c3117b01.jpg

The base vehicle operates independently from the modules.

https://i.vimeocdn.com/video/356760686.jpg?mw=1920&mh=1080&q=70

http://i2.wp.com/farm1.static.flickr.com/493/19795433696_3a03eb7a7d.jpg?w=625

Vehicle has a modular armor with special ceramic mix.

http://www.warwheels.net/images/BoxerMRAVartec%20(6).jpg

The triple hull floor is shaped for maximum protection against anti-tank mines. Every mission module has its own primary safety cell. It is claimed that front armor can withstand 30-mm rounds, while the all-round protection can withstand 12.7-mm fire.

http://www.janes.com/images/assets/247/49247/High-energy-laser-platform-on-display.jpg

Damaged armor slabs can be easily replaced in field condition. Also this APC has low radar and acoustic signatures, making it harder to detect.

BVP 80/M-80

http://rt002ycj.eresmas.net/prueba2/bvpm80.jpg

http://elektron.tmf.bg.ac.rs/user/bojan/armor/apc/m-80/m-80_13.jpg

Under Marshal Tito’s leadership and in defiance to the Warsaw pact and Yugoslavia tried to developed a reasonably successful local armament industry, both for land vehicles and the air force. Despite its marked independence towards the Soviet bloc, instead of adopting the BMP-1 for its motorized infantry regiments, the choice was made to develop a local version early on, in 1969.

Early research and development were achieved with the first completed prototype in 1974. Eventually the BVP M-80 final prototype was ready in 1979 but only accepted for service the next year (since the “80”) and fully entered service from 1982 onwards. About 800+ were manufactured (until the collapse of the country), including the upgraded M80A and several variants. All were passed onto the successors states (Serbia had the bulk of these) and saw heavy action in the 1990s civil war in all camps.

BVP 80/M-80

The hull is made of Aluminum/Aluminum oxide and Titanium boride, over a steel structure, and in sufficient thickness to protect against heavy machine-gun rounds on the frontal arc. This was a compromise in order to get a light hull, yet still better protected than the BMP-2, in a system recalling the M2 Bradley.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/16498755@N07/5392667038

The shape of the hull is prismatic with a considerable glacis front. The crew comprised the driver (front left) commander behind and gunner in a small one-man turret.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f110/Dario233/S5020952.jpg

Behind six equipped infantry took place on benches in the rear compartment. Exit doors are provided as well as eight pistol ports to fire on the move (sides and one in the rear doors).

Other protection equipment includes a collective NBC system, automatic fire extinguishers, inside heating and water ejecting system. In addition for concealment, smoke grenade discharges are provided and in addition diesel could be injected on to the hot exhaust (creating a smoke screen).

Mobility was provided on the first initial series by the French engine of 260 hp also used by the AMX-10P. It was replaced one year later on the M80A by a more powerful and reliable license-produced Daimler-Benz OM-403 which developed 320 hp engine, produced by FAMOS factories.

This engine provides a 22.6 hp/tonne, which gave a top speed of 65 km/h on land. The BVP-80 is also fully amphibious, propelled by its tracks in the water at 7-8 km/h, without preparation but raising the front trim vane (folded on the glacis).

BVP 80A/ M80

The M-80A main armament consists in a Hispano-Suiza HS 804 20 mm auto cannon

(400 rounds) and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun (2000 rounds) plus launcher for two wire-guided 9M14/Malyutka AT-3 “Swagger” ATGMs at the turret’s rear (licensed-manufactured).

Reloads (four more inside the tank) must be performed partly on the exterior from two rear roof hatches. Above all, the M80 is relatively easy to distinguish from the BMP-1/2, as being one meter shorter with one less road wheel, and a smaller turret.

The Panzer V - Panther

Surprised I didn't see it mentioned earlier since it basically was the invention of the modern MBT concept.

I'm sure there are plenty of weeks left for this and other tanks.

Who knows? Maybe 12Alfa had it planned for next week. Of course, you'd have to ask him, since this is his thread. ;)

Panhard AML M3 VTT

http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/SPECIALS/2003/iraq/interactive/ground.weapons/9.panhardm3arveh.jpg

The Panhard M3 VTT (French: Véhicule de Transport de Troupes) of the French firm Panhard, it’s a variant of AML-60 which uses the same essential components.

http://globetrotter08.free.fr/Materiels/AML/AML-60_01.jpg

The Auto-Mitrailleusse Legere, aka the Panhard AML was developed and manufactured by French firm Panhard to meet the requirements of the French Army for an indigenous 4x4 Scout Car.

Riding on the success of the AML, Panhard developed as a private venture for the export market the M3 Armored Personnel Carrier. Both the AML and M3 share 95% commonality in their parts. The first M3 prototype was completed in 1969 and production started in 1971, since then over 1200 were built, which were exported to 35 countries around the world. Production has now ceased.

Bosnia-Herzegovina has taken delivery of a quantity of Panhard General Defense VAT, VTS and VPC vehicles from an existing user rather than direct from Panhard General Defense. Recent information indicated that these vehicles were supplied from a country in the Middle East.

The engine is behind him and the rear space is used for variants equipment. The 1969 prototype had square-cut sides with a single door in each side of the hull and twin doors in the hull rear. It was intended that each door would have a single circular firing port. The production vehicle had a redesigned hull incorporating three hatches either side of the troop compartment.

is immediately behind the driver with the air inlet louvres above and to the rear of the driver, air outlet louvres on either side of the roof and the two exhaust pipes running along the top of the hull, one on each side.

The gear casing is crosswise and consists of two gearboxes in one coupled on both sides of the bevel pinion. The low-range gearbox comprises two low gears, top and one reverse for use in rough country and the high-range gearbox has three low ranges and one overdrive. When the low-range gearbox is in direct drive, the four ratios of the high-range box command the four upper gears of the range (6th, 5th, 4th and 3rd). Drive is transmitted from the main gearbox to the two lateral boxes, which transmit power to the front wheels by pinions and to the rear wheels by drive shafts that run along the inside of the hull.

Ball-type differentials in the gearbox and in each of the rear lateral transfer boxes prevent wheel slip. The suspension at each wheel station consists of coil springs and hydro pneumatic shock-absorbers acting on the suspension arms of the wheel mechanism. The tires have puncture-proof Hutchinson inner tubes.

MLI-84M   (or a picture of a APC for the sensitive people 9_9)

The MLI-84M infantry fighting vehicle is an upgraded variant of the Romanian MLI-84. The original MLI-84 is an indigenous variant of the Soviet BMP-1 IFV, but has a lengthened hull and additional heavy machine gun mounted over the troop compartment. The decision to upgrade ageing infantry fighting vehicles came in 1995. To date 99 Romanian MLI-84 IFVs were upgraded to the MLI-84M standard.

In recent years Romania has been upgrading The Romanian MLI-84 IFV to the The Romanian MLI-84M IFV new standard with non Romanian parts.

The most striking is the new turret. The OWS-25R (Overhead Weapon Station) turret is from the Israeli firm RAFAEL.

ows25_prwepl2.jpgThe main gun is a KBA 25mm auto cannon, supplied by the famous Swiss firm Oerlikon.

3036_49_155-oerlikon-contraves-kba.jpgIt is equipped with a 7.62mm Machine Gun in an armoured box on the right and two 9S415 ATGM launchers on the left, which are used to fire AT-3 Sagger wire guided ATM.

The new turret has increased the vehicles overall weight, so a new engine was added, which then meant the overall size of the hull had to be increased. This has had a detrimental effect on the vehicles amphibious capabilities and requires a higher level of preparation before entering the water.

The engine is a diesel Perkins CV8T-400, which generates 400hp. Its received new drives and upgraded suspension.

Its understood there that 99 MLI-84’s of the original 184 have been brought up to the MLI-84M standard. A late upgrade of the standard, will be the replacement of the launchers used to fire the Russian Sagger wire guided ATM’s, to those that can fire the Israeli 4th generation, fire and forget (vehicle does not need to remain stationary whilst firing & guiding, so isn’t a target), tandem charge (two charges) warhead, capable of defeating ERA, Spike ATM.
