Scrapper_511
I got Spearhead by Adam Makos and couldn't put it down until I finished it. Revolved around a Pershing crew in WW2 (same crew that dueled with a Panther in Cologne).

Gibsonm
Its not too bad, apart from sub plots about officers going out with other officer's wives.
Bond_Villian
Just finished reading ' A game of birds and wolves'. Not tank related, but a very entertaining read, and one that highlights some historical relevance and value of 'war-gaming'.

Also looks like a fun read. Thanks!

CharlieB
Try "Brothers in Arms" by James Holland https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brothers-Arms-Legendary-Regiments-Bloody/dp/1787633942 Excellent read following the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry from their landings on D-Day (6th June '44) through to the end of WW2 Equally - "Tank Action" by David Render https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tank-Action-Armoured-Commanders-1944-45-ebook/dp/B01BT3Z9WK/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2D5DR4ER4XIH4&keywords=Tank+Action&qid=1662472368&s=books&sprefix=tank+action%2Cstripbooks%2C51&sr=1-1 David Render was a Troop leader in the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry, who joined the Regiment on D+5 and fought with the Regt through to Armistice. This a great account of life as a young troop leader in WW2. I too have recently re-read Red Storm Rising, First Clash, Team Yankee and The Defense of Hill 781. All good reads. Galileo
Currently reading this one. Lot of armor actions and the phraseology and communications procedures are correct. May, 1989. The two nuclear superpowers are finally talking peace, but not everyone in the Soviet Union seeks such resolution. Senior Soviet ministers and generals conduct a coup to seize power and prevent the dissolution of the USSR and the Warsaw Pact. To cover up their plot and capitalize on the resulting chaos, they invade West Germany, setting off a chain of events and the Third World War. Across Europe, soldiers and spies are drawn into the conflict. From NATO headquarters to the front lines, the information is there to prevent nuclear annihilation if only they can find it in time. Based on the declassified operations order 33001, Leo Barron's decades of military intelligence experience allow this military thriller to dive deep into tactics and realistically explore how everything could have changed in 1989.

iamfritz
So I just recently invested in this Sabot publication (along with others) about the SEP 2 M-1A2 and discovered something interesting: The gunner's console in the SEP 2 has the IR sight set aside from the GPS. In the SEP 0 and 1 the IR sight is combined in the GPS. But they went back to M-60A3 ways for the SEP 2. Of course I could guess why. Anybody have an actual explanation for this?
TSe419E
Not an M1 tanker but I saw a conversation between one and other people asking this same question. Apparently the older setup induces less strain on the eyes when spending long times looking through the site, especially at night.
iamfritz
That's what I figured. The books I read about Desert Storm tankers lowkey suggest this.
Iarmor
On the Edge: The Incredible Story of the 188th Armored Brigade and the Greatest Tank Battle Ever Waged, by Aviram Barkai https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CWQ294XY It's an English version of the Hebrew book 'Al Blima' that came out in 2009. Many regard it as the best book written about the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The author served as a tank platoon leader during the war (but in other units) and was WIA. Whoa! The one star reviews of it are ... powerful. 'Authors didn't include my buddies who got disemboweled from friendly fire' kinda powerful. 'Authors are self-aggrandizing and glory seeking when they didn't actually do all they claim they did'. I'll hold off on this one for a while.
Members Ssnake
I liked it. It may not be chock full of tactical vignettes (though the assault on Jalibah Airfield seems to be a suitable basis for a Steel Beasts scenario) - but it was quite decent. Maybe not the least because they asked five guys for smaller stories than have one guy extend a small story to full book size.

They go hand-in-hand. I have them both. Both are great! Gibsonm
I found both "Enemy in Sight" and "Charge to Battle" by Nick Ryan as good blow by blow "near future fiction" and good items to listen to during recent flights.
Stuart666
Niall Edworthy's 'Main Battle Tank'. Punchy account of the Royal Scot Dragoon Guards Battlegroup in Basra in 2003. Surprisingly good, lot of stuff in here that I wasnt aware of. Dusty Warriors, a book about the PWRR in Al Amarah and Basra in 2004 is also well worth a read, written as it was by one of Britains premier military historians.
