Setting up a secondary TeamSpeak server ?

I suspect my original post in the "Teamspeak down?" thread is going to be buried, so just in case there is a chance to actually have the question answered I'll repeat it here:

TS server was recently "down" again.

Could ping the IP address and I emailed Nils and Sean.

Seems to have been linked / coincidental with a Forum problem too.

Both seem OK now.

How painful / expensive is it to set one of these up?

My PC is on pretty much 24/7 (In order to provide access to the "loan license" programme) so if it "just" requires some other software to run I'd be happy to configure an "alternate" for use as required.

If it needs dedicated box then I'm afraid I can't help.

Ah well I had a look and in order to qualify for one of their "free" licenses I need to provide:

WARNING: Our Non-Profit License (NPL) Policies have changed!

Our new requirements include the following:

You MUST have a verifiable, operational website on a custom domain

(eg - 'www.mygroupsite.com').

You MUST have an email address associated with your custom domain

(eg - 'yourname@mygroupsite.com' -- personal email addresses as well as free email services such as gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc, are no longer valid).

You MUST provide a static IP address on which you intend to run your NPL-licensed server.

As my ISP doesn't provide static IP addresses for my type of connection, the plan stops there (even if I had the enthusiasm to buy a domain name and set up an email server to satisfy the first two requirements).

Just add the pz911 server to your list of servers. I'm sure they have plenty of channels that are not used all the time.

It's not worth the effort of setting one up at home. Even if it was possible to get a license, it would chew through most of your bandwidth, leaving you little to use for a network session.

It would chew through the rest of your time to figure out how the permissions work, and redoing them all every time they offer a "server upgrade".

Yes that seems the best way forward, especially after Duke's and Dr.Thodt's responses:

Servus,

I´m 6h to late, but if you need a TS in future, you`re welcome guys.

best regards

Duke

...and it is no problem at all to create some channels in a hurry if needed.

I just didn't want to just presume we could use it and "hijack" it whenever we wanted to.

If you guys get into a bind and the Steel Beasts TeamSpeak server is down, please feel free to go ahead and use our milsurps collector's web site TeamSpeak server.

Milsurps.Com Members Voice Chat Server

Server address: ts67.light-speed.com:4128

I created channels for a Steel Beasts Lobby (Assembly Area), plus channels for Blue and Red teams. If you need any other channels, let me know..

I'd only ask that you try to keep the use contained here for our Steel Beasts family and don't spread the password too far and wide for general usage, just so strangers don't start taking advantage of us. ;)

Regards,

Doug

Doug,

yes, yours was the "local" one I referred to when I posted:

Well there is PzBtl 911 and another private one I know (hosted by a Canadian as it happens) but of course we'd need to ask their respective permission first.

in the 1 CAD thread.

Was pretty sure you'd be happy with ad hoc usage but wanted confirmation before offering something that wasn't mine to offer. :)

So in theory we now have a primary, secondary and now tertiary comms plan.

That should keep the gremlins at bay. :)
