Since their could be sub channels for Fridays event (ask your sides Cdr) , I thought I would post the link for multi channel Teamspeak operations from the wiki in here. The info is for a previous version of TS but the principles are the same. Smarter people than I will work out the details, I sure.

http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/index.php/Teamspeak#Multi-Channel_Battle_Nets

If your side is going to use multi channel Teamspeak, you had better be familiar with the mechanics of using TS in this mods, and Cdr's, you had better be adept at passing info up and down. Any weakness in those two areas will affect the course of the battle.

I took the liberty of making this into a pdf for user who wants to print a copy for their use. Nothing was change except the use of spellcheck and the port number was different.

Attach in a zip file is the pdf.

Servus,

just read on the red tide wiki, that we use ASLAV-25 instead of Luchs. Why he has no TIS. These vehicles received a thermal imaging device in 1985.

And one subchannel please for the german btn.

best regards

Duke(911)

Simple, because I wasn't aware that it had TIS. OK then, it is no trouble for me to add it.

As for the TS sub channels, I really care less what the name of the channel is, it is just a container for people to subdivide and sit in. But OK, I will make a channel for each BN name and a Recce and that will have to do.

Ok, now that I have recovered from yesterday:

Thanks everyone for showing up and playing the Recon Battle scenario yesterday. In case anyone is waiting for information in the event thread about what happened in the Recon Battle, my plan is to post weekly updates after the Friday game. The updates won't be extensive, but at least it will explain who won what, and who didn't. This information is intentionally withheld until after Friday, because I don't want one side to know too much about the enemy until after that (it is your jobs to determine/estimate/ascertain this data during the week).

Ah bit of a call for a guy who isn't even the German Bn CO. :)

I've sent the Comms plan to the Bn COs (including yours) but there is no harm in having these channels set up (although personally I prefer whisper lists so you can still hear everything on all the nets - like in a real CP).

OK had a read but am still none the wiser.

As I understand it "channels" are self contained, isolated and independent.

So in the Red Tide '85 context, if I'm in the "US Task Force" channel I can hear/talk to all others in "US Task Force" but can't hear anything (or talk to anybody) in say the "GE Task Force" channel. Worse still if I move to that channel I can't hear/be reached in any other channel.

If I stay in the "NATO/BLUEFOR" channel how do I hear everything (and if needed talk) in the three Task Force sub channels?

I want to replicate "real life" where I stand on the ramp of the M577 (or whatever other CP), can hear all nets and if necessary grab the handset of the radio to talk on (and influence the battle) on the relevant sub unit net.

AIUI, this is the advantage of whisper lists over channels, where if necessary I can talk to "everyone" simultaneously(reducing delays) with the only downside being that I need to remember which key to use to talk on the right whisper list?

I don`t no where the problem is. If I understand this right, you will stand on the ramp of your M577 and want to hear the platoon or company talk of the german btn the uk and the us? Why, your ears will bleed.

Our Co gives the informations to you and the other Co`s and if we have enemy contact you will have a lot of radiotraffic with these guys.

But you are the cdr, we do what you want, SIR.

best regards

I was completely familiar with using whisper lists in previous versions of TS as we used to have 3 channels in vRAF56: ALL (the whole squadron); FLIGHT (the four guys in your flight); and WINGMAN (I expect you can work that one out. :) Basically you just expanded the list in the right hand pane of everybody who was on your Channel, and dragged whoever you needed in and out of the various channels. ALL only changed if someone joined or left the squadron.

But I failed dismally in trying to do this on Wednesday night. The system seems to have changed; I wasn't even able to create lists. :(

I'll look into it, and if I find any useful info I'll post it here. Unfortunately, there isn't going to be any time to check it out in practice before Friday night.

Well managing multiple nets is how "we" do it.

The alternative appears to be to remain in the top channel and hope each of the Company Commanders relay the information up and down, which to my mind imposes a delay (and adds another job for him to do).

Well I re read the PDF you provided but it seems incredibly dated (at least from looking at the interface pictures).

But more importantly no listing under the "self" menu relating to "Commander" or "Channel Commander" (as per the documentation in the PDF).

Further searching for "Channel Commander" on the TS web site came up empty as well (overall an hour of my life that I wont get back).

So still have no clue. :(

I saw you there. :) And I saw that you finally sussed out how to make yourself Channel Commander.

One tip that might be generally useful. Go to Options/Whisper Lists/Receive and uncheck the box (self evident name) that makes a little window pop up whenever you receive a transmission from someone who has you on their Whisper List. According to Dark that box will sometimes force the main application to minimise. Normally just as you are about to take a shot. And even if it doesn't it's a bdy distraction. :(

Sure but neither the PDF (nor the web site) indicates what is so special about being a "Channel Commander" compared to being a normal user.

As I said, an hour wasted.

As the boss of BlueFor you will presumably be Channel Commander for the 'top channel'? Which means subordinate Channel Commanders can pass you intel without it going out on their company nets or over the main net. And you can issue orders for their ears only. At least, that's how I understand it.

Alternatively, company commanders could make a whisper list containing just the other co commanders and you. That would achieve the same thing, I think.

I trust this is helpful. It is intended to be.

Yes indeed as per the FRAGO (or perhaps it was the Recon AAR for 12Alfa that you also received) that I sent via PM to Bn Comd's (including your good self) a couple of days ago.

No one has yet to explain to me why dedicated channels are markedly better than whisper lists.

So a german btn in real life has 4 fighting companies, each has 3 platoons. So we have 12 different platoon channels plus 5 company channels + btn channel + brigade channel. How many radios do you have in your vehicle?

May I misunderstand something.

My plan was to set up one whisper list.

In this whisper list are the NATO / BLUEFOR channel, the US Taskforce channel, the German Taskforce channel, the UK T.... and the recon channel.

So if I give you a situation report all other Co`s can hear this too.

I`m not set up some whisper list for different people only if you want it.

Best regards

Ah well we don't have Platoon or Troop nets.

There is a Squadron net and all the tks in that Squadron use it.

At Bn HQ in the CP (ideally a M577 ACV track), there is:

BDE Command

Regt Command

A Sqn Command

B Sqn Command

C Sqn Command

D Sqn Command

Regt Admin

spare

In the CO's Tk, "I" have Regt Command and BDE Command

Anyway I'll be there from H-30 to sort out the comms and to discuss the draft conops that should be in your PM "in" box. :)
