The Lemur alone is worth the upgrade (price). It's tons of fun.

He he, with those handles

Heads up guys, Ssnake posted this vid over at Tanknet,

there's a few more surprises in there if you pay attention,

Thing to remember guys it don't take M1s (and early 80s era equipment in general) against Bradley's. They. Are. Evil.

I lost 7 out of 8 M1s, against 3 Bradleys killed, as an experiment.

Nils said the Russian were S**tting bricks when the M2/3 first came out.

Anyway ITEC, Great fun.

That's what I heard, at Tanknet. And it makes sense, around 1980. The M1, at least on the surface, was "just another tank" - better than its predecessors, but they couldn't really know the revolutionary improvements in all areas (vastly better mobility, vastly better protection, vastly better fire control system, and a decade later also vastly superior firepower); ignorance was bliss.

The Bradley on the other hand ... well, the Americans universally had M113s with cal .50 pintle mounts, and the troops were shooting Dragon missiles fer chrissake! The new vehicle had a gun that would chew to bits any IFV that the Russians had at much greater distances. EVERY ONE of them was equipped with multiple guided missiles that were almost guaranteed to kill even the best tanks that they had in the inventory, at longer ranges than they could fire their guns with hope of success. The Bradley was a real game changer and rendered many of the tactics and procedures obsolete.

Which unit exactly used M-1s in Desert Storm? M-1A1s were used exclusively during Desert Storm AFAIK.

Well, he's sortof right. At least one brigade went over the border with 105mm M1s (A Tanknetter was in it), but they would have been IPs, not the very early M1s without a bustle rack such as the one modelled in SB. According to GAO, 1,904 of the tanks were M1A1s and 120 were M1. More M1s had been initially deployed, but most units exchanged them for A1s by the time the shooting started. So realistically, only 5% of Desert Storm scenarios should incorporate the 105mm M1.

Not initially, I'm sorry. You'll get puke green, mud brown, and rust red.

So from reading the screenshot "titles", I gather that while there is no scope yet for multi side support (its still basically Blue Vs Red) there is now at least some limited "neutral" objects?

I gather these can be used for say NGO's or locals caught up in the fighting (quite apart from your possible "spying" employment)?

I've heard of more than one. The one that pops to mind is from an article in Armor, Jan/Feb 1998 by Major James K. Morningstar called Points of Attack: Lessons From the Breach. He lead Delta 3-37 Armor in the 1ID in Desert Storm.

(can't seem to find a link, but I have a hard copy)

There was a bright spot; on the evening before Thanksgiving, we were told that when we arrived in theater we would turn in our dogged-out and rebuilt M1s for new M1A1s. I really wanted those powerful transmissions of the M1A1s to power us through the expected obstacles. I should have known better: that same evening we were promised the holiday off, yet at 0530 hours Thanksgiving morning, I received the call to get the company in to paint the tanks. Needless to say on arriving in the Gulf, I found out that we would "dance with the tanks that brung us."

Granted, that's one specific company, but I have read elsewhere of the not-uncommon use of M1s in DS.

So we now want to tie up useful developer time discussing a target that isn't even worthy of main armament!

Can't we just accept the fact that a car is in and let them crack on with other "stuff"?

I really don't want to hear that the 21 August release date has slipped because they decided to re work the car. :)
