Stick has gone to shit.I couldnt find where to start it up to update it. So I unplugged it and put it back in so the icon would show in the bottom of my screen. An now my computer never can find the thing. I shut down all anti virus software. Still no help. When I try and open SB I get "codemeter error: Please ensure your CM stick is securley in usb port.100146:11051. Always worked before untill I foolishly unplugged it to try and update it. I can not use the usb ports in the back as this piece of shit only has 2. I have restared computer and nothing seems to help. When I open codemeter web admin and check contents it says no stick is connected. I plug it in, it blinks and the little light in my usb extension shows its connected, then the light goes out and the stick continues to blink.

I also have the flashing red to green dongle. It worked fine for months. I unplugged it (I keep it stored it in its case and in a safe place) for awhile then I plugged it back in and it is now a unknown device??? :mad3:

So I guess I need to send mine in to?? :mad3:

If so is this were I should send it??

eSim Games

PO Box 4443

Mountain View, CA 94040

USA

What info do I need to send in with it???

We need your address of course, so we can send a new one back. Second, keep in mind that the CodeMeter stick, even if it is defective, contains your software license. You should put it into an appropriate envelope (e.g. padded), and you may want to send it as a registered letter. Without it arriving in our mailbox we cannot replace it, obviously.

Funny this topic should bubble back up. I ran into this same problem.

I, too, had been getting the flashing/alternating red/green light -- but only for a few seconds ... about 11 red flashes then the lights went out. The sim would start fine. It has been this way for as long as I can recall noticing.

Now, after a few weeks break from the sim, I get the "ensure your CM stick is securely in the USB port." message after I've plugged it in and try to fire SB up.

Where my issue seems to part with other posters is that it will work if I unplug/replug the dongle in the USB port _without_ first going through the 'safely remove hardware' step. Pull it out, plug it back in, all is well.

That, of course, is a bit unsettling, as I don't want to damage the stick, but if I stop the device before removing it, I get the 'your dongle ain't in, stupid' stuff again the next time.

The CodeMeter .exe has specific clearance through my Norton AV, btw. Since I had upgraded to Nortion2007 recently, I thought that might be the problem.

Since the dongle does work when re-plugged ... is it really broken and need return? Or does this sound like a problem at my end?

I don't think that it is a CodeMeter issue. Pull it out, plug it back in - this does no harm to it. The "safely remove..." dialog is a precaution against mass storage devices if write caching is enabled so that data loss is prevented.

It seems that either the USB specifications aren't tight enough or that USB component manufacturers take liberties that they shouldn't, or that sometimes the assembly of USB ports (especially on the front/top side of PC casings) are a bit shaky (if could be the use of unshielded cables, or loose contacts, or whatnot). Whatever, sometimes the local conditions on the USB exceed the required minimum voltage/current conditions so that devices can be run properly, but not initialized, or initialized but not run.

I don't know the full story here. But apparently this is at least a part of the full story. It's hard to nail down from many thousand miles distance what exactly is wrong in the individual case. But if unplugging and replugging works for you, then by all means do it. I don't think that this is creating any risk. We can always replace it if it ceases to work at all. The danger is, if we replace it now the next dongle might not work any better because it's not a dongle issue in itself, so we all invest a lot of time and effort for no discernible improvement at all.

Thanks Sean, Ssnake.

Negatory on the non-Nortonized machine to test it on.

I tried one of the ports in the rear of the box (usually use the front one) and had the same issue -- with the same fix.

So for now, beyond a little hassle and the need to hold my mouth just right to get it to work ... at least it works.

I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks.

The CodeMeter is a USB stick which will verify that you are running a legitimate copy of our software. In fact, the stick contains a cryptographic device which will decrypt the executable of our software. The benefit of this method is that we can allow you to make backup copies of the installation CD, and to install it on more than one computer. You just need to take the USB stick with you and plug it into the one computer that you are currently using.

The downside is, if the USB stick gets stolen, gone is your software license with it until the stick can be detected somewhere. We recommend registering your stick at the CodeMeter.com website so that you can have it remotely disabled if the stick disappears. This will make it easier for eSim Games to provide you with a new stick and license for a mere token fee (plus shipping & handling), and not charge you for a full new license.

In addition, you can buy additional LAN licenses at a much reduced price (80% discount on the normal price).
