HELMET
On T-72 tanks, pressing Shift+B opens and closes the GPS cover, making it impossible for the LRF to measure distance (it is fixed at 800).
Mirzayev
So you are saying that when the GPS cover is closed, your LRF doesn't work? That's normal behavior for western MBTs. I don't know if there is a specific T-72-ism that makes this wrong, but normally your LRF is tied to your GPS for aiming and lasing.

Maj.Hans
Based on watching the video, I think he's complaining that it removes the prior range. IE, that closing the GPS shield changed the lased range to the fixed 800m range. I have no idea if that is correct behavior or not.
Mirzayev
Yeah, not seeing the problem. The GPS shield closes on the original GPS (not the add on one you are looking through) and when you lase it gives a default return of 800, because the LRF isn't able to work because the shield is covering it.
HELMET
I understand that MBTs such as the Leo2 and M1 are equipped with an LRF on the GPS, and closing the cover disables ranging. The problem here is that even though the T-72 does not have a retractable GPS cover, it closes and the LRF becomes unusable. Does the T-72 by any chance have a GPS cover (not a bolt-on one)? Solution Jartsev Posted January 17 Solution Share Posted January 17 None of T-72s in v4.397 should have user-operatable GPS door. Thanks for bringing this problem up; we will try to address it.

Just some fixed thingies?

When it comes to series production T-72s for russian military, doors were introduced only after beginning of full-scale invasion to Ukraine, when it became apparent, than optics appertures need some sort of ballistic protection, and this protection shouldn't be a bolt-on covers. There are several configurations known, but changes to design are rather fast-paced. And funny thing here- remote operated doors for thermal sights were offered by russian industry well before war, at least in context of foreign sales (see T-90SA for Iraq and proposed but rejected T-72 upgrade for Kazakhstan, for example).
