OPERATION: DOORSTOP

DATE: FEB 24 1986

0. Background.
45km south of Hannover, the survivors of the war's first action around Fulda have dug in once again, now protecting the south of the major city from the onslaught of Soviet armour flooding into the Fulda Gap. After holding against a number of major assaults from the southeast and south, your brigade commander believes it prudent to attack after several reconnaissance sorties discovered fewer enemy units now than the weeks before. Suggesting that there was a window of opportunity upon us, brigade received permission from division to conduct a limited assault to test the waters and attempt to regain some lost ground from the Red Wave.

1. Weather, Conditions, Terrain.
Cloudy with intermittent light rain throughout. Visibility roughly 2800m.
    1030 Hours
    9C°, 1m/s SE wind.
The terrain is generally very open with some wide, rolling hills that don't provide reliable cover. A notable exception is Point 03, which is a taller ridge that overlooks the town of Eime.

2. Mission.
    I. General.
Brigade command has issued orders to conduct a limited assault south-southeast along the brigade's frontline stretching from the Weser river in the west to Bockenem in the east. Your combat force comprises the central-west quarter of this frontline, and thus, being in the central push, your success is paramount.

    II. Current Situation.
As the sounds of gunfire die down in the southwest and reports of success flood in from the battle around Dielmissen and Kirchbrak, the sounds of gunfire in your sector slowly cease for a very different reason. Your reserve company has been brought up on emergency orders to replace Juno company in their disastrous assault on the city of Gronau. Battle reports from Juno company were relayed entirely by the few tanks of the company that escaped an apparent trap and ambush laid by the Soviet defenders. They go as thus:

1x enemy COY attacked from due South in direction of Esbeck and 2x enemy PLT of TNK attacked from vicinity Elze simultaneously, flank guards were ill-prepared to defend and needed to retreat, leaving the forward assaulting force exposed on all sides. In the pursuing battle around Sehlde, 7x friendly tanks were destroyed, with between 6-8 confirmed tank kills. CO's tank was struck by HE artillery shell at his commany post in Eime and completely disabled. Bravo reports the CO to be in critical condition, but alive. During the fight for their lives, Bravo company, who had been acting as the mechanized arm for the combat force, had no time to pack up and retreat back to Oldendorf and was thus regrettably left behind. Radio contact with Bravo company has been made, though to maintain OPSEC they refused to share strength information or plan with your company, believing the enemy to have been listening to their communications. The blue CO will NOT plan for Bravo company.

    III. Orders.
Able Coy is to move EAST at best speed to replace Juno company at the FSL, immediately forming a plan to assault east and break Bravo Coy out of their encirclement. If possible and prudent, Able and Bravo company cooperate to complete Juno's original objective, pushing further east to the river Leine and setting up defensive positions there with Bravo Coy, while Alpha and the remains of Juno hold the flank security.

    IV. Enemy.
Juno reports enemy composition as follows...

        i. Equipment.
            TNK: T-72A/B
            IFV: BMP-2
            PC:  BTR-70

        ii. Strength.
~1 Coy combined Mech and Armoured somewhere between Eime and Esbeck. Enemy strength immediately surrounding Bravo is reported as 1 Coy (+) of mechanized with piecemeal tank support.

        iii. CoA.
Enemy has succeeded in executing a crushing pincer attack that converged between Point 17 and Point 03, likely setting up a hasty defensive line vicinity Esbeck-Sehlde area. Enemy likely seeks to leverage a strong attack against Bravo company in t+15 minutes with the intention to destroy Bravo and focus their efforts on Oldendorf.

        iv. Support.
3-4 Batteries of heavy artillery with ICM and HE.

    V. Friendly.
        i. Equipment.
            TNK: M1IP
            IFV: M2A1 Bradley

        ii. Strength.
1 Coy of M1IPs moving in from the West. Juno remnants will serve as your reinforcement tanks.
1 Coy (-) of Bradleys establishing defensive outpost in Eime.

        iii. Support.

            2x Batteries of onmap artillery.
            Ammo per tube:
            24x HE
            6x  SMK
            6x  ICM

            1x Battery of mortars.
            Ammo per tube:
            51x HE
            18x SMK (non-multispectral)

        iv. Sustainment.
            Medics: 2x
            ARVs:   2x
            Supply: 4x

    VI. Execution Instructions.
        i. CoA.
            Briefed by CO.

        ii. Objectives.
            1. Relieve Juno company at the FSL
            2. Make contact with Bravo company
            3. Bring medical attention to Juno CO
            4. (secondary) Assault East and establish defensive positions on Leine with Bravo Coy.

        iii. Restrictions.
AO limits are the 68th parallel and the 73rd parallel. The enemy is not restricted to your AO.
Bluefor CO is NOT to plan for Bravo company, as doing so would further threaten Bravo's safety by way of breaching OPSEC.

3. Notes:
Juno company remnants will serve as your reinforcements once you relieve them at the FSL.
