Counter Stroke at Hunfeld v4.1

Summer, 1987

Soviet forces launch a surprise attack across the German border in response to perceived aggressions by the west, but are quickly brought to a halt by the combined forces of NATO putting up much stronger resistance than anyone expected.

Now NATO is attempting to counter attack.

Updated for SBProPE v4.1
Uses the Haune Valley delta map of the Hunfeld map.

Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for Battlegroup Griffin...

1) SITUATION:

After initial successes penetrating our lines yesterday, the combined forces of NATO brought the advancing Soviets to a quick halt.  We did this at a high price, and through the extensive use of scatterable mines deployed by vehicles, plows, and artillery FASCAM.  Unfortunately, in some cases we may have been too quick to lay traps and fall back.

Now we're attempting to go on the offensive, and find ourselves fighting through our own mines to get at our enemy.

    A) Enemy:

Areal reconnaissance has revealed the presence of a Nationale Volksarmee motorized rifle company, with tank support, moving into position just to the east of the minefields.

    B) Own:

Your own forces are a thrown together mish-mash of whatever happened to be laying around, but thanks to NATO air superiority you are well supplied.

    "A" company, 11th ACR:

Two platoons 'mix and match' of M1IP and M1A1 Abrams (It's all we could scrape up!), one platoon M113 plus infantry, one platoon M901 ITV, one platoon M1064 mortar carriers, a FIST-V, and various recovery, repair, and support assets.

CO and XO in M1's with mine plows fitted.

    "E" company, Engineers:

One platoon M113, two with MICLIC trailers.

One section M60A3 (TTS) with mine plows

    "G" company, Bundeswehr:

Two platoons Marder 1A3 with infantry
One platoon Leopard2A4
CO and XO vehicles

One section Spahpanzer 2 "Luchs"

    C) Attachments and detachments:

Resupply and refueling assets, two M88A1 MRV, two M113 Medical vehicles, FIST-V

2) MISSION:

Breach the minefields marked on your map, and secure Objectives Apple and Baker.  Hofaschenbach is thought to be lightly defended by NVA troops.

Mittelaschenbach is similarly thought to be relatively lightly defended.  There may be some more NVA troops north of Mittelaschenbach.

Your mission is to breach our own minefields, fight your way into Objective Apple, and pacify what resistance you find.  After securing Apple, move on to Objective Baker, and secure it as well.

3) EXECUTION:

Trigger 1 calls smoke on the far side of the mines.

Additional assets:

Five batteries (six guns each) of M901 have been tasked to support your mission.

You also have your own platoon of mortars for support.

We'll give you as much air support as we can manage.  Leverage your artillery support to keep their heads down while you make your crossing.

IMPORTANT:
(From Scen designer)

This scenario uses the Haune Valley map.

I *think* this is currently provided with the maps package, however, I noticed that as part of the update to 4.1, this particular scenario

points to a delta map...And I'm not sure if that delta map was included originally or if it's one that I created for some reason!

If you need this particular delta map, extract the provided Haune Valley.rar and place it into:

Steel Beasts\maps\packages\Hunfeld [autocreated base]\deltas

Be sure that the folder structure is correct, so that deltas\Haune Valley contains the ter and mrf files.

Hi would love to participate, preferably in a Leopard as im more familiar with that than the Abrams. But can also take any non-Platoonleader Abrams tank, if the need arises. Am also willing to just be a Gunner if there are too many people or somebody just wants to be TC.

Thanks!

Hi NA,

We have winter time since last weekend!

BTW a very old and unrealistic map of HUNFELD!

Vielen danke kamerad

It always gives a few challenges everytime it switches.

As for Hunfeld, then a) its not my scenario, b) I dont know which Hunfeld map is the updated and I dont know exactly which part of the map was used ...

Ah I remember creating this scenario a long time back, and tbh I should probably polish it up a little...but...

Try to repair anything you can, keep pounding the Reds with artillery, and if you manage to make a big enough push it gets easier when you get reinforcements!

I present you two screens from the current map "Wasserkuppe 2-24" and in a blank scenario:

Nike-Ajax or Maj.Hans, if you want the blank scenario I'll send it to you!

Greeting

Yes please - so to be clear: will the scenario match it up or do I need to manually center it ?

It would be neat if you upgraded it:

Its a good scenario !

You should open the scenario by the "Mission Editor". Then click to "Map" on the top menue.

Choose "Refresh or Replace map". If "Replace map" then choose the map "Wasserkuppe 2-24".

Normally it will center the new like the former one. If not then you can do it.

Afterwards you have to check all scripted routes and other things like obstacles, if not correct then change it!
