SwissAdmiral
Who: Anyone who can! Please sign up early so that we can reserve your place. When: 1800UTC Sunday, Sept. 15th Where: ts3.din-server.dk:10000 6th May 1984 0. Background 4 months ago, tensions between the GDR and the FRG flared to a breaking point that resulted in the GDR along with (what NATO intelligence believed would be) the GSFG invading the FRG. The FRG and its NATO allies then nearly immediately were left unimpressed by the joint Soviet-East German invasion, as it was halted just a few days after it began, only capturing a few dozen kilometers of West German land. NATO forces spent a few days preparing their own offensive into East Germany to liberate Berlin, which had also to that point resisted the pressure despite being hundreds of kilometers from help. In all respects, the NATO counterassault performed markedly better than the initial Bloc attack and quickly rolled over much of East Germany, retaking the rest of Berlin in just more than a week. Once Berlin was captured, however, it was discovered why the initial Bloc assault performed so poorly. Intelligence reports stated that due to a recent breakdown in communications between East Germany and the Soviet Union, the Soviets had been in the process of extracting from East Germany entirely, fearing that the GSFG would wind up surrounded and subsequently captured by (what the Russians believed) would be a freshly united Germany. Thus, the Bloc's initial assault was exclusively made up of GDR units that resultingly defected to the West in droves. During this complete breakdown of central European diplomacy that nearly resulted in a three-way war, Poland and Czechloslavakia have remained curiously silent and appear to not have aided the Soviets or East Germans in any way after hostilities first began. Because of this, they should currently be considered neutral. I. Situation i. Time: 2030 Sunset was at 1858 ii. Weather: Overcast cloud cover with none to light precipitation expected. Expect fog to form as night goes on. 14°C, No wind. iii. Summary of previous connected scenario: Your armoured reconnaissance company moved forward through enemy lines, anhillating the enemy forward line and dealing a sharp blow to their main line, performing well beyond expectations. The Polish were evidently unaware of our intentions, and accordingly set their forces on high alert when they detected us coming close. Thankfully, with some clever political manouvering we were able to smooth things over and they have given us permission to continue our mission. The Polish remain a neutral party, and their border still should not be crossed in any circumstance. I. General This is the assault phase of the aforementioned Reconnaissance mission, using the results from said recon mission. The map still includes the destroyed enemy vehicles from the recon mission, and they are labelled and positioned accordingly on the map with minimal inaccuracies. Your overall objective is to smash through what remains of the enemy lines and capture or destroy the enemy depot, taking care for any civillian property in the area. All areas with the STEPPED CIRCLES have been shelled upon the withdrawl of the recon. Effectiveness of these artillery strikes is unknown. a. Terrain and ground: Large open areas combined with thick woods and an abundance of small townships and farms. The road network is fairly dense and most of the major roads are named. The terrain itself is quite uneven and there are many small dips or hills that may provide cover for movement. The enemy is dug in to a significant extent, including but not limited to abatis, barbed wire, trenches, bunkers and vehicle emplacements. Minefields were NOT located during the reconnaissance mission, though you must remain wary of open terrain that can be blocked off or funneled into by minefields, as just because the recon didn't find it doesn't mean it isn't there. There are a number of small water features dotted around the AO that can be hard to see on the map, watch where you're driving. b. Current Situation. Enemy has been forced to defend what we suspect is an ammunition depot just off of H119. Due to the likely presence of civillians, we cannot simply hit the suspected depot with artillery. One of your objectives is to capture this depot and any ammunition or vehicles parked within. B. Enemy Forces I. Strength: Recce destroyed the entire enemy forward line, as well as a decent portion of the enemy main line before withdrawing. Expect a Coy +/- 1 platoon remaining in the enemy main line. Enemy reinforcement is TBD, though should be expected. II. Equipment of Remaining eny: The GDR have been running with outdated equipment for an extended period of time, and this is no different in your sector. Previous encounters have shown the enemy to consist of the following: T55As, with an even-more-outdated-than-normal ammunition loadout. BMP1s, which have been proven to in fact be more dangerous than the T55s, at least to the Marder. BMP2s, in very limited numbers and possibly not even a complete platoon. BDRM/BTRs, in somewhat of an abundance. Possibly freshly supplied from the Soviet Union, more likely that they simply had an incredible amount of them pre-war. Those same previous encounters have yeilded a number of captured weapons that also show what infantry AT weapons are available. Malyutka/Sagger ATGMs with limited reloads. Suppose 4 missiles per position. Fagot/Spigot ATGMs with even more limited reloads. Suppose 2 missiles per position. RPG-7VS MPAT, the GDR seems to have exhausted or otherwise lost its supply of the more effective RPG-7VLs. III. Quality of Remaining eny: The GDR is at this point scraping the bottom of the barrel with their conscripts. Those who havent fled the country already are about to, so the only ones left to recruit are those who can't leave. Prisoners especially, which have been known to be used in droves to buy time for the more experienced units. Fortunately for NATO, even while employing this tactic the GDR has nearly nothing left of its more hardened units. Expect highly demotivated conscripts that are slow to react. IV. Reinforcement/Counterattack: Friendly contingents to the north and south of your borders will be carrying out an attack alongside you. There is little room between the frontline and the Polish border for the East Germans to slip in fresh reinforcements, though knowing the importance of the location you're attacking it is possible that the enemy may pull back some forces from either the north or south and redirect them into your AO to try to hold the depot. These units would be somewhat better equipped and prepared to fight, though to what extent is uncertain. The commands to your north and south will inform you if it appears that the enemy is redirecting to your AO. V. MDA: Remaining enemy is in a prepared defense of both their depot and the final sliver that still connect the north and south of the GDR. Enemy constructions are present as per the enemy terrain section. VI. ENY CoA: Enemy will likely try to employ a static defense of their positions from which they intend to inflict as many casualties as possible. Counterattack from the north or south possible should the enemy determine that the depot is worth trying to save. C. Friendly Forces (FF). You have been assigned to a task force comprising of a total of 1 Panzerkompanie and 1 Panzergrenadierkompanie. Only some of the forces available are able to be manned from the start simply for staffing reasons, though the rest of both companies are on call and ready to support should it be required. II. Mission: Assault the enemy main line and...: 1. destroy it. 2. note any further defenses or minefields not found by recce. 3. move to the depot about 1.5km to the east of the main line, capturing it and any vehicles there. 4. split East Germany into two. 5. respect the Polish border. 6. hold the line against any counterattack attempts. 7. do not pass the LoA. Secondary OBJ: 1. Recover the two destroyed friendly callsigns with the ARVs so that the vehicles might be repaired later. Both have been given the HOTEL 1 and 2 callsigns respectively. III. Execution a. Commanders Intent Purpose - Capture the enemy depot and split the GDR into two at the same time. Key Tasks: As per Mission section. End State: Friendly: Friendly defensive positions looking both north and south, ready to defend against any further attack by enemy to the north or south. Enemy: Destroyed in place. c. Fires 2 Batteries have been allocated to your task force, ready to assist with any strongpoints. Fires can ONLY be carried out by the FO. Ammo per tube: 42 HE 42 SMK 6 ICM d. Aviation 5 strike flights with CAS aircraft to hit blocking targets. Do not use them against single vehicles. e. Mobility/Counter-Mobility Friendly: 1 Heavy Engineer attachment available to clear obstacles. Enemy: Possible, and likely. If spotted, destroy on sight. f. Coordinating Instructions 1. ROE Minimize damage to Civillian property. Do NOT, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES breach the Polish border. We've already inadvertently tested them once, don't test them again. IV. Sustainment Supply: FOUR. Repair: TWO. Medic: TWO. You have been given a full CSS compliment suitable for your unit size. V. Command And Signal Friendly ID: On Map Contacts: Off Communication: Per SOP, with the additional fact that all fires go through 1D, who is the FO. VI. Map Notes The blue lines running W to E are the north and south borders. Moving past them may result in destruction by enemy or friendly fire. The blue line running N to S is the limit of advance. SwissAdmiral
OBSERVE: All armour spots have been taken, and in order to preserve our reinforcements more will not be alloted. If more sign up, then I can open up a second mech platoon since we also have a full company of Mech to use. TLDR: if you sign up after this point, all that remains is mech.
