Steel Beasts: Content Wish List

According to the SB Wiki, the Leopard 2A4 armor has been redone to correspond to roughly equivalent protection levels to the M1A0 after some new research.

I'm happy with this change to reflect a more accurate cold war era 2A4.

I wishlist the return of the old armor package model as the Leopard 2A4 m.1990, or 2A4+, or whatever name is best for it.  I understand this would be roughly equivalent in armor to the M1A1 and the work was already done.

Also, I would love to have a Leopard 2A4 PL or 2A4M CAN, if it were possible some day, but realize how secretive the owners may be, etc.

I guess we could call it the "Leopard 2A4, 8th production lot", or "Leo 2A4 m. 1987"

It is in SB Pro to the extent that all 2A5s+ were upgraded to 8th lot standards (and the received the add-on modules), and this is reflected in our vulnerability model.

Since the 8th lot was the smallest of them all, and was manufactured last, we decided to not add it as a separate model.

I would be highly in favor of adding the Leopard 2A4 m.1987, then.

It would allow for old scenarios where the 2A4 with the 8th lot armor model was used to continue to be updated and balanced by a simple 1 to 1 swap of 2A4s.  Its also keeping in line with the old days of Steel Beasts (Gold) where the simulated 2A4 was apparently the 8th lot.

You may also consider, even though keeping the same 3d model makes the most sense, putting it in game with a new texture file.  That would allow for late 80s or early 90s scenarios with Leopard 2A4s having slightly different camo patterns or even mixed formations of plain OD green and NATO 3 color, etc.

not per se a request that some or all of them are operational in the sense that they can deploy their weapons and payloads, but to have a visible presence and serve as targets:

air defense missiles and their tel or truck mounted versions: patriot , hawk, sa-2 / sa-3 / sa-6

himars / frog-7 / scud - b

operational:

towed howitzers and anti-tank guns

They already have #1.

This (M60A3 Passive) literally slipped right past me until just this moment when perusing the wiki.

I haven't bought the latest version yet and was only aware of the T-72B3.

It would be great to have, in this menu in the picture, a "Rough, if..." and "Exact, if..." setting for the enemy intel of position. This would allow for both the simulation of SPG spotting radar as well as the inclusion of civilian based intelligence if for instance the enemy were to enter a populated town. Its not a perfect representation of the latter, but I don't see an easier way to do it without developing an entire new game system.

Building off my last post, it would also be nice if there was a way to set a condition to only be true for a certain amount of time before becoming false again until the conditions are met again.

This is totally possible using an event tied to time and a conditions.

Having just updated to the latest version ("Best Dollars I Ever Spent!") I wish to update my wishlist:

1. Leopard 2A4, m.1987.  Same as the existing Leopard 2, but featuring the thicker armor that used to be the standard in ProPE.  Would be good for simulating the last cold war era production batch and other 2A4's upgraded to the final standard.

2. A Leopard 1 with IR night sights.  My proposal is to utilize the "Optional Weapon" or "Vehicle Specific Options" dialog box in the mission editor to add a passive IR night sight view to the gunner's station and to the TC's Peri view of the already existing Leopard AS1.  According to the AFV Fair Matchup page, the Leopard AS1 is recommended several times as a Leopard 1A4 substitute, a role which I quite happily use it for.  With the addition of some passive IR night sights, it should make a quite reasonable substitute for the Leopard1A4 fitted with the PZB-200.

3. Marder 1A3 + Mounted Milan.  Even if it has to be AI only.  I would rather have the launcher mounted, especially when using them as AI platoons.

4. If the game engine can handle it, an M113 with the M132 Dragon mount, which allowed the TC to have both the .50cal M2 HMG and a Dragon ATGM mounted around his hatch.

5. More Soviet targets.  I mean tanks.  For example, T-80BV, T-64AV or BV, T-62M with BDD armor, or a T-62MV with ERA.  If possible, some day.

6. Earlier versions of the Marder 1 and Luchs 2, if possible, some day.

7. The ability to order infantry mortar platoons to engage in "direct fire" with the mortar.  Meaning I want to be able to tell a mortar platoon to go ahead and shoot on its own if it sees a good target.

Been having some good fun playing around with GW1 missions in the new M60A3 pretending it's an A1 RISE Passive with ERA blocks.  Wishing for more cold war content in the future!

I know the sim caters primarily to military and government buyers, but I would love to see a lot more modern APC's, IFV's, and AFV's to keep the simulation up to date, even if that means some of the updated equipment added to vehicles that are already in SB Pro. I would also love to see Merkavas and other IDF equipment added at some point as well as some Chinese vehicles, given the way the world is headed. The Marder be given a Milan, and that German Wiesel added that I mentioned months ago too. 🙂

There already are Merkavas.

Perhaps open the Mission Editor and review the list available (right click and select "new unit").

The list as at 4.379:

Wow I had no idea the Merkava was there. Never seen them in any of the missions? Thats neat.

Please keep in mind that they cannot be crewed by a human player. Their crew positions are not modeled for players to use them, they are strictly AI-controlled. (With the exception of telling them where to go etc of course.)

I think all the MK IID's were phased out of service around 2017 and most were converted to APCs. May be a few left in reserve units. Mostly the MK III's and IV's now.I am assuming the Mk. II troops in the game is probably the Namer APC with the turret removed, several MGs installed, and more room for infantry.

Would love to be able to crew these but of course it takes a lot of resources to make interiors, sadly.

As per the hopefully very clear key usefully included on the diagram. ;)

Yes absolutely, I just wanted to clarify it because some people don’t look at it too closely. When they’re then told that x vehicle is in Steel Beasts, some of them jump to conclusions.

I just wanted to make sure everyone‘s on the same page. Depite the fact that your diagram visualizes it quite well.

Well I can only spoon feed so much - I think the ability to read is a valid assumption.

I do read but I have only played missions and operations. If I built scenarios I would know more about which vehicles are in the game, but when I bring them up, I mean vehicles that we can actually crew so the Merkava does count here because its AI only at this time.

Given how secret the IDF is about even relatively mundane things like the super secret FN-FAL rifle, or the latest highly classified UZI, they'll never let us learn enough about the Merkava to have it crewed with any accuracy.

I'd be happy to see it modeled with gunsight/periscope only type views amd a best guess FCS some day but ProPE seems relatively reluctant to do that kind of thing.

Sorry I meant read the text I put on the graphic.

To me, adding text to the graphic, which is then posted and then effectively re-typing the same text is a bit pointless.

Israel did sell some Merkavas in the form of AVLB's to the Philippines and they are currently looking to sell Cyprus, Merkava III MBT's. Maybe they are done being stingy? lol😄 I think they are really cool in that they have room for like a fire team via the rear hatch. I have always liked how they have hung MG's all over their vehicles like SAS jeeps in WWII.
