cata
Question regarding IEDs. At the mo you use the arty shell animation for IEDs is the related power of the IED, we currently use, of a 155? With the new 500lb animation is it possible we could see more powerful IEDs?
Members Ssnake
That animation is still the same, just a bit scaled up and with more dust. Eventually we'll need a bit of an artwork overhaul, admittedly.
Skybird03
I do not know what to think of the IED. It seems to have a nuclear warhead, taking out (by damaging EVERY board system) every tank ALWAYS. I have a scenario where a road leads between two houses some dozens meters separated, the player'S tank is expected to move on the road. Normally, in earlier versions, I expected some random damage to heavy tanks, sometime none, and more damage to light tanks/IFVs, rarely none. but now, it always is a total overkill, both houses go, everything in the blast radiuss goes (no wounded crew, but the tank a wreck. I wonder what this sim element should be used for in any scenario as long as a trap involving two full truckloads of explosives is not intended. I tested with Leopard-2A5DK and Strv-122.I think it should be tuned down, and not just a little bit. I had to edit both IED traps out of the scenario. Or have something like a range effect involved. Moving the IED right now, does not make a difference, just when several dozen meters away, it just can be heared - and then has absolutely zero effect anymore. The effect is either insane total maximum God-mode overkill , or off.
Members Ssnake
My secret plan is to give the IED a property where one can set its strength from hand grenade to 500lb bomb level. I just can't say when we will manage to get to it. It's difficult to find a balance for a "one size fits all" type of IED because no size will make everybody happy.
Skybird03
Good to hear. I would imagine that it is more complicated to insert a whole slider and according formulas, than it would be to just add let'S say 3 types of IED: small, medium, large. The small like the ones from the beginning, the large like it is now, and then one in the middle of both settings. the latter would sound easier to me, but maybe that is just my imagination. Even just two types of IEDs - the new one, to flatten whole appartement buildings, and the old one to generate some randomised smaller dmaage to vehicles - would be sufficient.
cata
The ‘small, medium, large’ sounds good to me. My own personal account of IEDs was nothing less then a god like event. A culvert IED took out one of our sections on a mobile patrol in Northern Island. Striped an armored Landover down to its axel and tossed that remaining part over 100m into a field, and created a new lake where a road use to be. IEDs yes can be big! For the purpose of a set up like SB I think some thing ranging from a 155 shell to a truck bomb, with a 500lb bomb in between perhaps, would be suffice. Rather than a grenade size device, which im not sure would provide much in SB, how about a AP mine that could be used in minefields and set as traps. For training purposes, and IED with some kind of visual clue, perhaps disturbed surface or a few simple objects, to make the student think and look and pay attention. On this subject, my mines in SB have no sound when they detonate?
