Dealer31
I did a quick search of the Support Forum to see if my issue was already answered and was unable to find this. Basically when initiating SB Pro PE, this pop up appears: Error! Failed to initialize COM library (0x80010106)! My system is an MSI GT73VR 6RF Titan Pro WIN10 with MacAfee AV. I recall having this problem a couple of years ago and do not recall exactly how it was resolved. The error message appeared after I upgraded to the newest version 4.250 last night. When it first appeared, I restarted the computer and was able to run SB PRO PE last night after the restart. This evening I am unable to get past the error message (restarting does not fix the issue as it did last night). Any suggestions on how to eliminate this error are greatly appreciated.
Gibsonm
Probably something you have already tried, but disabling MacAfee or perhaps white-listing SB Pro PE (if MacAfee can do that)?
Members Ssnake
I have had exactly one case (from 2016) with this error message in my database. In that case it was caused by external software, specifically ASUS "Sonic Studio" (and/or MSI "Nahimic") which seemed to have initialized the COM subsystem of the 2016 computer with parameters other than what Steel Beasts needs. I would concentrate the initial investigation on sound and/or video related external software running in the background. If that isn't "it", I don't know (but would appreciate a short email from you after you solved it containing the 0x80010106 error code so I can find it in 2025 when the next case is likely to happen).
Dealer31
Thank you for the recommendations received on my issue. Through a likely combination of dumb luck and overcoming ignorance, I did get SB Pro PE 4.250 to finally open. I probably took the hard way trying to resolve the error message that likely will make some of the more tech savvy players cringe or laugh (or a combination on both) as internet searches outside of this forum offered little to no suggestions. Ssnake, I will send you an email outlining the approach I took as requested. I uninstalled, reinstalled (this time I did not use the Bundle installer), and eventually isolated what I think the problem (aka Nahimic2) was in Task Manager Background Processes. I have to disable/end 3 processes associated with Nahimic2. Nahimic2UILauncher, Nahimic2 32-bit, Nahimic2 64-bit. If I do not do this to all 3 Nahimic2 processes, SB will not load.

Bald Spot
Necro to add that this is also applicable to ASUS sound cards and their support software. Look for nhAsus processes in your Task Manager and end them. I personally had two, one a 32bit and the other a 64-bit process.

Well, it's late 2024 - two months earlier than predicted... but it seems we have the next case.
Members Ssnake
Seems like it was another case of the Nahimic software. Which works fine on most other computers, it should be mentioned.
thewood
I get a new laptop every year. First thing I do is remove McAfee. Second is remove Nahimic. And Nahimic is sometimes not easy to remove. Many games with older architectures have serious issues with Nahimic conflicts. I know Combat Mission support recommends removing it. Command Modern Operations also did the same on their old 32-bit architecture. I view Nahimic as almost a virus with how embedded it gets in the system.
