This is the second in a series of scenarios designed to familiarize new Steel Beasts players with basic Offense and Defense tasks executed by a Tank Platoon. This series uses US Army Doctrine as a basis, and aims to present the Tank Platoon's role when operating as part of an Armor Company. This series also focuses on introducing concepts within the game to the player, while maintaining a low level of difficulty to reduce frustration during the learning process. An attack is an offensive task that destroys or defeats enemy forces, seizes and secures terrain, or both. An attack differs from a movement to contact because enemy main body dispositions are at least partially known, allowing the leader to achieve greater synchronization. Attacks incorporate coordinated movement supported by direct and indirect fires. They may be hasty or deliberate, depending upon the time available for assessing the situation, planning, and preparing. The leader may decide to conduct an attack using only fires. (ATP 3-20.15, Tank Platoon) This scenario has been designed to allow the practice of the following eight (8x) concepts: i. Conduct a forward passage of lines with a unit in contact. ii. Control direct fire through the use of fire control settings. iii. Conduct movement and maneuver through restricted terrain. iv. Employment of smoke to deny enemy observation and fields of fire. v. Conducting an attack by fire. vi. Conducting an attack to seize an objective. vii. Attacking infantry in fortifications. viii. Anticipating and defeating an enemy counter-attack. This scenario is rated by the author as very easy, and will likely take approximately thirty-five (35x) minutes to complete. This scenario heavily favors friendly forces to facilitate a learning environment where tactical mistakes do not mean instant death. AVEPS have been included as a method for identifying tactical errors made by the player(s) by sorting through events during the AAR. Special thanks to ben, and Apocalypse for testing and providing feedback.

This is the first in a series of scenarios designed to familiarize new Steel Beasts players with basic Offense and Defense tasks executed by a Tank Platoon. This series uses US Army Doctrine as a basis, and aims to present the Tank Platoon's role when operating as part of an Armor Company. This series also focuses on introducing concepts within the game to the player, while maintaining a low level of difficulty to reduce frustration during the learning process. Movement to contact is an offensive task designed to develop the situation and to establish or regain contact. It creates favorable conditions for subsequent tactical actions. The platoon leader conducts a movement to contact when the enemy situation is vague or not specific enough to conduct an attack. Forces executing this task seek to make contact using the smallest friendly force possible. A movement to contact may result in a meeting engagement, which is a combat action occurring when a moving force engages an enemy at an unexpected time and place. Once making contact with an enemy force, the leader has five options: attack, defend, bypass, delay, or withdraw. (ATP 3-20.15, Tank Platoon) This scenario has been designed to allow the practice of the following eight (8x) concepts: i. Conduct maneuver as a platoon. ii. Conduct a movement to contact as part of a tank company. iii. Conduct an attack by fire to destroy an inferior force. iv. Employ mortars to destroy an inferior force. v. React to enemy rotary wing assets as a platoon. vi. Conduct a reload as a platoon. vii. Break contact with a superior enemy force. viii. Conduct a hasty attack as part of a tank company. This scenario is rated by the author as very easy, and will likely take approximately thirty (30x) minutes to complete. This scenario heavily favors friendly forces to facilitate a learning environment where tactical mistakes do not mean instant death. AVEPS have been included as a method for identifying tactical errors made by the player(s) by sorting through events during the AAR. Combat Power 8x Stryker Dragoon (DF30/Proxy) 4x Stryker MGS (Centauro/proxy) 4x M1A2 I. SITUATION a. Enemy. Enemy forces are defending the area with a mechanized infantry company (BMP3) supported by a platoon of T90 tanks and a motorized recon platoon. The enemy has positioned two mechanized platoons foward, defending crossing sites at Novahorsk and Gliwek and two platoons remain near the town of Bojnik. We expect to see motor recon units conducing roving patrols on the flanks and near the Anizu hills, to provide coverage between the disruption forces and the main body in Bojnik. We expect to see tanks supporting the main defense at Bojnik, however, they may reinforce a crossing site if necessary. b. Friendly. Friendly forces consist of a Stryker Recon Troop supported by a platoon of tanks. Weather is keeping our aircraft grounded, so don't expect any support. The poor weather conditions are also slowing our follow-on forces, so we must seize that critical crossroads junction in Bojnik. II. MISSION: Attack to clear enemy forces from the town of Bojnik; this will allow follow-on forces ease of movement across the road network. III. EXECUTION Tasks a. Clear Bojnik (60) b. Counterattack At Al Miram by Apocalypse I. Situation. We have detected an enemy attack to seize crossings at the Jahj Canal in an attempt to break out of Al Miram. Your scout platoon is currently positioned near Hill 138, with dismounted positions established at OPs ALPHA & BRAVO. We observed an enemy armor platoon preparing for the attack but lost contact after our drone was shot down by a Surface to Air missile somewhere near Al Miram. We are dispatching friendly armor reinforcements but they will take approximately 15 minutes to arrive. In the meantime, we have dispatched a flight of AH64's that will arrive in 10 minutes. Insurgent forces also control the village of Al Miram. The presence of Surface to Air missiles has made aerial reconnaissance difficult, and their exact composition is unknown. However, based on Human Intelligence reports we can estimate at least one platoon of T-55 tanks reinforced with infantry is defending the village. II. Mission. Defend against enemy attacks along the Jahj Canal and then counterattack to clear Al Miram. III. Execution. A flight of (2) AH64's is en route and will arrive within 10 minutes. Friendly armor is also en route and will arrive in 15 minutes. Hold positions along the Jahj Canal at OP ALPHA & BRAVO and then counter-attack to clear the village of Al Miram. a. Fires. You have two 120mm Mortars and a platoon of 155mm directly supporting you. b. Aviation. 2x AH64's will arrive in 10 minutes. A UAV was shot down recently and there IS a SAM threat in the village. c. Engineers. No engineer support is available, however, a small minefield has been established near OP BRAVO. IV. Service & Support. Logistics support is currently out of range. Situation An enemy Mechanized Infantry Battalion is established in a defense around the Benmir airport. Our scouts have identified enemy recon forces operating just beyond Phase Line ALPHA, and several platoon battle positions along Phase Line BRAVO. Enemy recon patrols are extremely aggressive and our scouts were forced to retrograde, so enemy dispositions beyond the phase line BRAVO are relatively unknown but we anticipate mechanized infantry battle positions supported by tanks in a layered defense around the airfield. We also anticipate the enemy to emplace minefield obstacle belts to support their defense, as well as protection from MANPADs and artillery. Our force is relatively small, and a piece-meal composition of scattered units across the Battalion. The Division commander is pushing an aggressive timeline for seizure of the Benmir airfield to support airlift of critical supplies into the AO. We're out of time and must attack now. II. Mission Attack to seize OBJ BULL to allow friendly forces to utilize additional tactical infrastructure to support future offensive operations III. Execution -Attack now, and attack with what you have. Additional reinforcements may arrive when or if they can. -You have support from 2x transportation aircraft, and elements from B CO (light infantry), but beware of the SAM threat in the AO. -Your attack will be supported with organic 120mm mortars and a battery of 155mm guns. IV. Service & Support -Your company is fully supplied, and is being supported by HQ resupply assets (fuel/ammo) - A FARP has been established to the south by G CO, and can be moved at any time. V. Command & Signal -Friendly ID: On -Map Contacts: Enabled Commanders Guidance: 1. You don't have much to attack with, certainly not as much as you'd like - but sometimes thats life! 2. Do recon - locate the enemy and determine their composition - formulate your attack and don't attack blindly. 3. Take your time - Don't rush. Designate march objectives - seize terrain that you think is relevant and consolidate your forces. Rinse and Repeat.

Combat Power 6x DF30 (w/ Scout Teams) 2x Centauro 2x M1A2 I. SITUATION a. Enemy. Enemy forces are defending the area with a Mechanized Company; three platoons of BMP-3 supported by a T-90 tank platoon. We expect a truck-mounted scout platoon operating between Phase Line AXE and Phase Line BLADE, with the main enemy defense positioned between PL BLADE and PL CUTLASS. The enemy has positioned a battery of SA-19s near the town of Datsk in order to protect their logistics node that is established the town of Zvodra. b. Friendly. A Stryker Recon Troop is positioned forward, and is being supported by a section of M1A2 tanks. A US Combined Arms Battalion is following and will pass along Highway 8 as they continue the attack to the north. II. MISSION. Attack to destroy the enemy logistics node near Zvodra III. Combat Power 2x ASLAV-25 2x Centauro 8x M1A2 4x M2 ODS 1x UAV 2x UH60 (w/ dismounts) I. Situation Enemy forces defending the town of Amallah with an armored company (T-72M4 and BMP-3) in a hasty defense. On the eastern flank is a known SAM (MANPAD) site that was revealed to us by Human Intelligence sources in the area. It is defended by dismounted forces and light trucks, and is using aggressive roving patrols. Additionally, if the enemy detects an armored attack on the SAM site, it will most likely launch a counter-attack with the Brigade Reserve Company (T-72) to protect its high-value asset. We have also detected a C2 node - an enemy Command Post that is directing the fight from north of Amallah. We believe this will be a vulnerable target for our UAV and long-range fires if we can first neutralize/destroy the SAM site. The enemy maintains a small armored reserve somewhere north of Amallah that will be employed to prevent the town from falling into our hands, or to defend the SAM site. The enemy also maintains a platoon of 122mm artillery, located somewhere to the north. II. Mission: Attack to seize the town of Amallah III. Execution Concept. Amallah must be cleared - however, we must set the conditions for a successful attack. First, we will locate and destroy a known SAM site in the east using a recon force - this site is providing protection against friendly air assets. These SAMs are incredibly important for the enemy - if they detect our armored vehicles in the area, then we can expect an enemy armored counter-attack against us. Once we have destroyed the SAMs, then our friendly UAV will be cleared on station. Use the UAV to locate the enemy command post, in a suspected position to the north of Amallah. You will have a precision-strike capability with Guided Multiple-Launch Rocket system (GMLR) and 15mm artillery support. Once the SAM site and HQ position have been destroyed then A CO armor will be released for the attack on Amallah. Key Tasks 1. Locate and Destroy SAM Site (10) 2. Locate and Destroy Enemy HQ (10) 3. Clear enemy from Amallah (30) 4. Preserve Combat Power (50) Fires 4x 120mm Mortars (organic) 6x 155mm Guns (direct support for enemy HQ) 12x Rockets (direct support for enemy HQ) IV. Support. 18. Good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone might have a more in-depth manual for the M1A2. I'm sorta looking for more of a Field Manual or a PUB on the tank. I already know whats offered on the Wiki pages but having something that could go even more into detail would be appreciated. Just asking for a friend that just purchased the game. Thanks Kyle

Kanium Sunday 3rd of AUG 1800 UTC "Operation Desert Tortoise I" Special NTC by Apoc Where: Kanium TS : teamspeak3.i3d.net:10077 World clock 1800 UTC Everybody is velcome , though we recommend that new players contact Major Duck, Swordsmandk to get an intro to our use of TS and get setup and get a small get familiar session sometime before the scen as it can be a very very steep learning curve to play multiplayer compared to single player. Its our experience that most new players hang around much longer with that approach and most learn something new that way. We have no requirement for participants to be a member of our VU(Virtual Unit) and you can be a member of other VU's and still play with us or to participate on any number of games etc..., we have a rule that says that your only velcome when you want to play and remember family is more important then the game. Operation Desert Tortoise I by Apocalypse 1. SITUATION a. Enemy. An Armored Battalion from the 18th Armored Brigade is established in a deliberate defense along Pioneer Pass. They currently have one company of T-80U tanks, supported by dismounted infantry forward, in vicinity of OBJ SLAYER, that has established a disruption zone to provide early warning and maneuver space for the remainder of the Battalion, which has established their main battle zone around the bottle-necked area of Pioneer Pass. The enemy maintains sufficient indirect fire and engineer assets (we anticipate at least 1x mine belt surrounding OBJ SLAYER), and is being supported by a sortie of attack helicopters that it may employ at any time. b. Friendly forces are assembling for a Brigade-sized attack that will require Pioneer Pass to be clear of enemy forces. In this sector, Team Kanium will lead this attack by clearing enemy forces within the valley and seizing Pioneer Pass, in order pass elements from 2nd Battalion that will continue their attack to the West. 2. MISSION Team Kanium attacks to seize OBJs SLAYER and ANTHRAX, to allow follow-on forces freedom of maneuver through Pioneer Pass. 3. EXECUTION a. Purpose. The purpose of this operation is to seize key terrain, so that follow-on forces have freedom of movement. b. Key Tasks 1. Seize OBJ SLAYER 2. Seize OBJ ANTHRAX 3. Clear enemy armor within Pioneer Valley & Coyote Valley c. End State i. Terrain. Pioneer Pass is seized and enemy (armor) are clear from Pioneer Valley ii. 23. Kanium Sunday 27th of AUG 1800 UTC "Team Kanium Movement to Contact" Where: Kanium TS World clock 1800 UTC Everybody is velcome , though we recommend that new players contact Major Duck, Swordsmandk to get an intro to our use of TS and get setup and get a small get familiar session sometime before the scen as it can be a very very steep learning curve to play multiplayer compared to single player. SITUATION Enemy: A reinforced enemy mechanized infantry company has established a defense-in-depth at two bridge crossing sites at the river. They are composed of 4x PLT of BMP2's and infantry armed with AK74s and RPG-27s. They have been supplemented with tank support, consisting of 3x Platoons of T-80 tanks. Additionally, the enemy we are facing has been given priority of engineer support - expect dug-in positions with at least one protective mine belt. Friendly: 1st Division is preparing for a massive assault within the built-up areas north, across the river. However, Team Kanium must first seize two vital bridge crossing sites to support the follow-on attack. MISSION: SEIZE OBJ ANACONDA TO PASS FRIENDLY FORCES TO THE NORTH. EXECUTION: Player driven Fires: 6x tubes of 120mm (organic) Support: 1x Suppot Platoon (Repair/Resupply) Info Friendly map updates only Friendly ID is on No penalty zones (honor system - please don't go outside of our boundaries)

  25. Hello! When zooming into the CITV on the M1A2 SEP, the frame rate plummets to unplayable levels (around 5 FPS!). This is not present in any other thermal view in the tank, and the CITV actually works fine when you are not using the zoomed in view via F3. Below is a video demonstration: I know this has been reported at least once before, but I wanted to bring this issue back up. Thanks!
