An American designed 155mm self-propelled howitzer, the M109 family of vehicles represents the most common Western indirect fire-support elements. It is, or has been, in service by nearly all European and Middle-Eastern militaries along with numerous second world powers. The turret mounted 155mm M185 L23 cannon fires HE, HE/RAP, Illumination, ICM, DPICM, Smoke, Area Denial (FASCAM), and chemical rounds. As currently modeled, the M109 is intended as a mobile artillery placeholder/target and is not actually functional as an indirect-fire artillery piece, though it does possess limited direct-fire self-defense capability. | |||
